Dots are OpenAI’s always-on agents inside ChatGPT. cutGPT is a free AI chat assistant that pays eligible users a cut. The biggest difference is price.
What Dots do
OpenAI introduced Dots in late September 2026. Each Dot gets its own cloud computer and browser, remembers context, and keeps working on scheduled or recurring jobs while you’re away. It can use more than 4,000 ChatGPT plugins, and you can give it access to your own computer to pull files or browse.
You set one up on ChatGPT’s desktop app or website, give it a name and a look, then talk to it there or in the ChatGPT mobile app. Permissions, custom rules, and auto-review control what it’s allowed to do on its own.
What cutGPT does
cutGPT is a chat assistant on the web, iPhone, and Android. It answers questions, drafts and edits writing, explains photos and documents, and searches the live web with sources. It doesn’t run in the background or act inside your apps.
What you get instead:
- Free to chat. No Pro plan required. Ads pay for the models.
- A cut for eligible users. Discretionary promotional rewards, cashed out to PayPal past the minimum (terms apply; not wages or guaranteed income).
- Your ChatGPT memory, carried over. Import preferences and project context from ChatGPT so you don’t start from zero.
- Web, iPhone, and Android. Sign in with Apple or Google.
Pricing and access
Your first Dot is included with ChatGPT Pro, which starts at $100/month (with $200 and $500 tiers), or a Business Premium seat at $100–$125 per user per month. Free, Go, and Plus plans don’t include Dots. Work a Dot does on your behalf counts against your plan’s allowance. At launch, Dots for Pro weren’t available in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland.
cutGPT is free to chat and open to everyone.
Privacy
On personal ChatGPT plans, OpenAI may use Dot activity to improve its models depending on your settings. Business and Enterprise data isn’t used for training by default.
cutGPT doesn’t need access to your computer or apps. See the privacy policy.
Which should you pick?
Pick Dots if you already pay for ChatGPT Pro and want an agent working on long projects and recurring tasks.
Pick cutGPT if you want strong everyday AI without a $100/month plan, and a cut for using it.
Use both if you keep Pro for heavy agent work but want a free assistant for quick questions and writing on your phone.
